As students prepare for their future in the 21st Century there is an focus on providing them with opportunities to be successful in College and Career. The Common Core State Standards have been designed to challenge students to analyze their thinking and develop multiple steps to reaching the solution to a problem through being creative, critically thinking, collaborating, and communicating.
The Orange Unified School District (OUSD), is committed to planning for continual improvement, will offer a learning environments of excellence, with high expectations, to provide each student with the opportunity to be able to compete in the global economy. This mission statement guides the implementation of the district technology plan.
The plan is composed of three parts that include the district Local Control Accountability Plan, a national Future Ready Framework and an assessment structure referred to as CASE. (Classroom, Access, Skills, and Environment)
Connecting these three models allows OrangeUSD to see important technology structures that need to be in place to create success in serving all students and then evaluating those structures to make data driven decisions in guiding the technological future of the district.
Educational Technology strives to provides a comprehensive program taking teachers from understanding devices to fully implementing them through a 1:1 program.
- iLearn – The iLearn program's primary goal is to provide teachers with technology to include in daily, effective Common Core Standards-based instruction. This provides teachers the opportunity to create 21st Century, blended learning environments. Students will develop technology skills for college and career readiness by utilizing technology to critically think, collaborate, communicate, and create. The iLearn Program will encourage teachers to participate in sustained educational technology professional development with the goal of increasing classroom technology integration.
- STEM Checkout - The STEM Checkout program provides forward thinking teachers the opportunity to try a variety of instructional technology devices for their classroom use in exchange for feedback pertaining to the potential of enhancing instruction, impact on student achievement, and connections to district approved curriculum. This program is run throughout the year.
- Professional Development – creates specific task oriented courses that can assist teachers “just in time” on technology use in the classroom.
With this structure Educational Technology Services is able to take an individual teacher through an transformative process within their instructional process. This provides students the opportunity to experiencing a redefined classroom environment.
